Should You Snoop On your Employees?

The question remains – to snoop or not to snoop. Increasing threats of terrorism, rampant acts of disloyalty and increasing misuse of confidential data is spawning a new list of must-dos for businesses. It is true that it isn’t really a “great” thing for a business establishment to incorporate Surveillance cameras at workplace for the following reasons:

  • Leads to the creation of a workplace which blatantly refuses to trust its employees.
  • Breeds discomfort, disloyalty and can perhaps even incite aversion to work.
  • Distances employees away from the ethos of the organization.

Should a Business go to this extent to guard itself? What does one draw the line?

We honestly feel that most businesses are here for a profit and not to be tolerant of its employees philandering information away. When it comes to the question of the very integrity and sanctity of a company, employees – harsh though it might seem – have to take second priority.

The businesses must ensure that appropriate surveillance systems be put in place to guard and check against possible infiltration. Employees must be trained and be made to understand the reasons for which this is being done and the best practices suggest that their understanding and assent would still bring the company together in one piece. Examples are rife with companies where this has been a huge success.
